You need an authenticator app to get the 6-digit codes you must enter when logging in. This is not an SMS and not an email: the codes appear in an app on your smartphone and automatically change every few seconds.
You can use any app that supports TOTP codes. Common apps include:
Microsoft Authenticator
Google Authenticator
Authy
1Password / Bitwarden (password managers with TOTP)
Which one should I choose?
Want the simplest option? Choose Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
Want something that’s often easier to move to a new phone? Choose Authy or a password manager such as 1Password or Bitwarden.
How do I install such an app?
Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).
Search for the app name (e.g., “Microsoft Authenticator”).
Tap Download / Install.
Open the app. You’ll usually see a + or Add account. You’ll use that to scan the QR code later.
